Mozart Adevu
(Beginning 2010)
Missionary Number # 13996Z madevu1201@yahoo.com Welcome to the biographical sketch of Mr. Mozart M.K. Adevu, missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church serving in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. Mr. Adevu is the Africa Regional Coordinator for the Sustainable Agriculture and Development Program for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). Mr. Adevu’s main focus is providing leadership in training of farmers identified by local churches and conferences in six African countries. Training is in subjects appropriate to local needs for improved food production, reduction in hunger and malnutrition, and economic development of communities. ”God’s mission of feeding the hungry and the poor has been the hallmark of my work. Through God’s divine grace, the program has already improved the lives of over 3000 destitute families in Africa over the last four years of service.” Working extensively in the planting/cultivation of moringa trees (see http://gbgm-umc.org/health/aidsafrica/moringamiracletree.stm) Mozart briefly shares that several families returning home after the war in Liberia found that the moringa trees survived, and many families avoided severe malnutrition. In the Kamina area of the DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo), where health facilities are scarce, the moringa tree has become a wonderful and free source for treatment of several diseases. Born in Ho, Ghana, Mr. Adevu earned Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Cape Coast in Ghana in 1981. In 1987 he attended Pantnagar in Uttar Pradesh, India and received his Master of Science in Animal Breeding. Mozart studied management and public administration at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration and was awarded a post-graduate certificate in 1993. Most of Mr. Adevu’s work has been in Ghana as a secondary school agricultural science tutor, an assistant manager at a livestock farm, Assistant Animal Husbandry Officer for the Ghana Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and Coordinator of Agriculture and Development Program of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Ghana. He has been in his current position since 2001. Mr. Adevu is married to Janet Mina, and they are the parents of two sons, Makafui Kofi and Toni Dela Kofi, and one daughter, Selma Afi Serwaa. Mozart’s mother, Grace Ama Afedo is a deaconess in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana. The Adevu family attends the Adenta Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Adenta, Accra, Ghana. Mozart Adevu is available for Covenant Relationship support in North Carolina Annual Conference . Make an online donation to: Mozart Adevu #13996Z. John Elmore (beginning 2008) Missionary # 013109-8hz Casilla 441 Iquique,Chile 011-5657-322961 http://www.gbgm-umc.org/umc-chile John H. Elmore is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church assigned to the United Methodist Church of Chile as Mission Volunteer Coordinator. Living in Iquique, Chile with his wife Maria Cristina Hurtado, John's responsibilities for the last nine years have been coordination of work teams and construction projects in the northern part of the country. Cristina teaches English at the Iquique English College in Iquique. Previously a self-employed carpenter in Alabama, Mr. Elmore responded to God's call to mission service in 1995 and served as a Volunteer in Mission in the Dominican Republic where he was instrumental in constructing a hospital/clinic. Following completion of the hospital, he served for 2 and a half years in Chile as a construction and work team coordinator. "During my 11 years in mission, God has taught me much. He has lead me down paths of humiliation, helped me to feel the bitter cold of despair and yet the exhilaration of hope, and has shown me that only through him we can find TRUTH. When I tell people about what I do in Chile I say that I don't think God called me because I am a carpenter. There are many more skilled craftsmen than I in Chile. His reason for calling me is still unknown and probably will remain so. I always thought it had something to do with my skills. Lately I believe he just wants me to be obedient. I think all he wants is for me to love him and let myself be available for whatever comes up in His name." A native of Richmond, Virginia , John and his family lived for seven years in Panama. Mr. Elmore graduated from Woodson High School in Fairfax in 1971. He is a member of Forest Lake United Methodist Church in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. John Elmore is available for Covenant Relationship support in California/Pacific Annual Conference, Nebraska Annual Conference, North Alabama Annual Conference, Oregon/Idaho Annual Conference, Virginia Annual Conference.
