Music
- The Wesleyan Chancel Choir provides musical leadership throughout the church year. The Chancel Choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m.
The Wesleyan Handbell Choir participates regularly in the 10:00 a.m. worship service. The Hand Bell
Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m.
Ceremonies
- Membership
- Members of Westchester United Methodist Church have been baptized into the church universal,
have confessed their faith in Jesus Christ,
and have shared public vows to support the United Methodist Church
and this local congregation with their "prayers, presence, gifts and service."
The sacraments of Communion and
Baptism
are celebrated regularly, with Communion on the first Sunday of each month, and
Baptism at any time, by arrangement with the Pastor.
Newcomers Classes are held regularly for all who would like to learn more about the church.
We regularly celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism and welcome new members into the life of the church. If you would like to further discuss your interest in baptism or church membership,
please talk to one of the Visitor Hosts or Pastors.
Weddings
We rejoice in the love that you desire to celebrate in Marriage.
Fellowship
- An in-depth Bible Study is offered every Sunday at 8:30 a.m. in the Fireside Room.
Short-term Bible studies are offered throughout the year. For a schedule of upcoming classes, please contact a Visitor Host or the church office.
Fijian language fellowship is offered throughout the year. Led by
Inoke Raikadroka, a service begins at noon each Sunday. For
information please contact the church office.
A Sermon & Worship Bible study is held each Tuesday at 7:oo p.m. in the Fireside Room.
The Builders, a fellowship of mature couples and singles, meet monthly for special events such as dinners, plays or other happenings.
Sunday School Families meet for family outings, seasonal children's activities and support.
Exercise Class meets every weekday morning, except Thursdays, from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. in Fellowship Hall.
United Methodist Women emphasize Christian mission throughout the world. The group meets as a unit four times a year. Subgroups of the UMW Fellowship meet the first week of each month in members' homes. All women are welcome.
United Methodist Men focus on
service to the church and to the men of the community.
Children
- Children accompany their parents to the sanctuary for the start of worship and Children's Time.
At Children's Time, a brief lesson is presented to the children. At 10:15
a.m., the children are led to their
classrooms. and accompanied to their Sunday School classes by our Sunday School staff.
The Sunday School Superintendent will be happy to provide further
information.
Quality, loving Child Care is provided throughout the morning on Sundays, as well as every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon through our Mother's Day Out Program.
Missions
Our church actively supports:
- The Airport Marina Counseling Service, which provides counseling services to people of all ages
The Guatemala Project, which assists in community development projects near Chichicastenango, Guatemala
Covenant Relationships. Our
congregation supports United Methodist missionaries in the field.
Hot Meal Program. On the Second Saturday, each month, at 11:00 am in the Fellowship Hall, a
hot lunch is served to anyone in need of a meal.
Food Pantry, LAX an emergency food resource for low-income clients in Inglewood, Westchester, El Segundo,
Hawthorne and portions of Los Angeles.
A variety of worthy causes, both local and world
wide, through "Special Sunday" offerings sponsored by the United
Methodist Church.
History
- The early
history of the church shows the great faith of those who were the founders.
- The stained glass windows installed are distinctive.
